About Ian Hatherly
Ian began his career in the academic world completing a PhD. After graduating from The University of Birmingham with an MSc in Environmental Health, he worked at Birmingham City Council as an Environmental Health Officer covering Health and Safety, Food Safety and Noise Nuisance work.
Working for a large local authority meant he took the lead in pursuing formal action against companies in both Health and Safety and Food Safety matters to ensure legal compliance and a safe working environment. His work entailed a high volume of Health and Safety inspections, including workplace accident investigations across a wide spectrum of industries. Additionally he undertook numerous Food Safety inspections and food poisoning investigations. He is now able to use that experience to advise clients on realistic and attainable measures to ensure that their workplace is operating at an acceptable level.
He has worked demonstrating practical skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students and has lectured and presented at various levels.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (MCIEH) and a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH). He started working for Southall Associates as a consultant in early 2009 and joined the Company full time in 2010.
